CRKC representatives met with Tim Farron MP in January. Issues discussed included the importance of nature-based solutions both for treatment works as well as flood management and open, honest dialogue with communities.

We talked about the Water Bill and Tim’s efforts to get amends to clauses, in particular ‘Banning the Bailouts’. We raised the importance of historical data on discharging by UU as well as the existing live monitoring and the Water Commission’s consultation timetable / remit.

CRKC stressed the importance of a root and branch review of the water industry and restructuring options as part of this process.

Tim undertook to follow up up with DEFRA re. timetable for publication of new ‘bathing water’ guidance, and revised regulations; and with the EA re. the Kendal fish kill investigation. Tim expressed his interest in getting involved with practical citizen science activities going forward.
